Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Experienced

Electric Imp is a fast growing and innovative startup making it possible to connect all sorts of devices and products to the Internet through our software tools, cloud services and hardware solutions. Our powerful platform is accessible and scalable to a broad range of uses, providing Internet of Things connectivity solutions for everyone from the hobbyist maker all the way up to enterprise wide applications in a variety of industrial sectors. We’re a small team of diverse professionals, working on something truly revolutionary, and we need your help!

We’re hiring experienced backend software engineers to work for our “Core Cloud Services” team in the UK, where we use Erlang to build our massively scalable and concurrent PaaS cloud backend. The IoT is projected to add more than 50 billion devices to the Internet, and we are building a platform to manage that level of scale.

Your Opportunity

  • London, UK preferred (remote working). You will find the rest of the team hanging out in team chat or on Google Hangouts. You will come to regular team meetings in London and Cambridge.
  • Will be able to “own” a feature from beginning to end. It’s not finished until the customer can use it.
  • Work with product owners to define requirements; with the other developers to implement and review the solution; with QA to define appropriate test cases; and with DevOps to ensure that it’s deployed and working.
  • Be responsible for writing automated unit, integration and system tests for your new feature.
  • Work closely with the Front-End and Embedded teams. This will involve visiting our Cambridge office.

Our Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant field, or equivalent applicable experience.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Experience with, or a desire to learn, Erlang/OTP. If you do not have Erlang experience you should demonstrate experience with concurrent programming in general and with another functional programming language, such as F# or Scala.
  • Experience with developing software on Linux or similar.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure.
  • Good communication skills, including written communication.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Jenkins, Hudson, TeamCity or similar.
  • Experience with Continuous Deployment.
  • Experience using git.
  • node.js
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and RabbitMQ.
  • If you know enough Python, Ruby, Go to be dangerous, that’d be cool, too.
  • A little bit of HTML/JS/CSS wouldn’t go amiss, either.
  • If you also know C++, then you’re the unicorn we’re looking for. Get in touch.
