Electric Imp provides an innovative and powerful service platform that makes it simple to connect devices to the Internet.

Our Cambridge team - responsible for the embedded software in the ‘imp’ device at the heart of the platform - is looking for a Lead Test Engineer to help us deliver Electric Imp’s exciting feature roadmap.

This is a senior role, which you will be able to shape according to your experience and your assessment of QA priorities for our product and our team. However, we expect that you’ll be involved with most stages of our development process, including:

  • Reviewing the feature roadmap to plan an appropriate, long term test strategy
  • Identifying improvements to our infrastructure for automated tests and soak tests
  • Challenging incoming feature requests and helping refine them into testable requirements (using, for example, the ‘3 Amigos’ approach)
  • Contributing to estimation and planning of upcoming development work
  • Consulting on the design and implementation of system tests for new features
  • Carrying out exploratory testing, and writing new tests to cover new cases found
  • Ensuring our automated tests clearly document the expected behaviour of the system
  • Reviewing incoming bug reports, analyzing diagnostic data and generating replication steps as required; verifying fixes as they are developed and delivered
  • Potentially, recruiting and mentoring junior test engineers

  •  A minimum 5 years’ work experience in a technology QA role, involving embedded software, electronics, networks and/or wireless devices, ideally in an IoT context
  • To be comfortable testing multi-component architectures, and designing and implementing automated test frameworks
  • Skill at analysing complex requirements from a testing perspective
  • Proven capability to plan and prioritise work
  • Some background with helping define APIs
  • Programming experience in Python, with exposure to C
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration and related tools (e.g. Jenkins)
  • An ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
  • Initiative and imagination
  • Attention to detail, combined with an ability to stand back and see the big picture

  • Pension Scheme up to 5% match
  • Stock Options (equity in the company)
  • Childcare Vouchers
  • Bike to Work Scheme
  • 28 Days Holiday
  • Death In Service benefits
